May Hnʾt son of ʿnmw the strategos be remembered before Dūšarā the god of Gaia
The reading of the text is almost certain despite the bad quality of the incision. The preferred reading for the last word of the first line is gyʾ, with only one y, though gyyʾ is just possible (see detailed photograph).
This text is interesting because it comes from the Wādī al-Ṣuwaydirah, c. 60 km east–north-east of al-Madīnah and it mentions a strategos, i.e. a high rank Nabataean official who was in charge of the administration in the Nabataean provinces and controlled the routes and the traffic. Finally, it is worth pointing out that he asks to be remembered before Dūšarā as the god of Gaia (= Wādī Mūsā near Petra), which is evidence for connections between Wādī al-Ṣuwaydirah and the Nabataean capital. Since this text does not come from an urban centre, it is likely that its author, Hāniʾat (or Hunāʾat), was involved in the control of whatever traffic took this wādī.
Another text from Wādī al-Ṣuwaydirah also mentions a strategos (see UM022Nab 2).
